Upgrading from a 70A to a 140A Alternator – What You Need to Do:

1. Upgrade the Charging Wire – Replace the stock wire with 4 AWG or thicker from the alternator’s B+ terminal to the battery or fuse box.

2. Upgrade Ground Wires – Use 4 AWG or 2 AWG for battery-to-chassis and engine-to-chassis grounds.

3. Upgrade the Fuse – Replace the stock fuse with a 150A–175A ANL fuse or heavy-duty fusible link.

4. Check Belt & Pulley – Ensure the belt fits properly and isn’t slipping. A stronger belt may be needed.

5. Verify Voltage Regulator – Ensure compatibility if switching from an external to an internal regulator.

6. Test the System – With a multimeter, confirm charging voltage is 13.8V–14.7V under load.

For high-power accessories (winches, lights, audio), consider a secondary battery or isolator.
